Fruit loops!

12 Jul

Don’t these make you want to run out and buy a box of Fruit Loops! Jeepers, it’s been a long time since I last had Fruit Loops!!!

Don’t you just love this print from Etsy?

How cute – now there’s enough reason to go out and buy that box of Fruit Loops, even if it’s just for one bowl and to use the rest in a photo shoot!!

Things to Make Tuesday: Four out of Five

28 Jun

So this last weekend we took ourselves off to the House and Garden Show in Durban  – I especially loved their Home Grown Section – a hall filled with handmade people – a little bit of heaven for me.

Anyway, one of the stands that we came across was selling the most awesome kiddies cooking accessories. Little aprons for boys and girls, the sweetest little wooden spoons as well as perfectly kid-sized chopping boards, with embellishments! I have to admit  it really was these items that first caught my attention – but we quickly got chatting and it turned out that the main item was in fact a recipe book ‘Four out of Five’.  Now, first things first – you’ve got to respect this Mamma – she’s got 5 children… published recipe book or not…

The recipe book – titled Four out of Five because each recipe had to get the thumbs up from at least 4 out of her 5 kids – a better panel of judges I’m sure you won’t get.

What I love about this book is the recipes are really simple, straight forward, healthy, and I don’t think will take too long to cook. (Let’s be honest, with 5 kids, this mamma ain’t going to be putting a cook book together where the meals take the whole afternoon to cook!). Did I mention that the recipes all look really yummy as well! Seriously…

So here’s my advice… if you live in Durban make your way down to the House and Garden show, otherwise, get in touch with this husband and wife team via their website here…. I really don’t think you’ll be dissappointed. (Did I mention that 15% of the proceeds of the sale of the books go to playground equipment for underprivileged pre-primary schools)

So on the note of cooking and kids, here are some more cuteness on the topic

Aren’t these cute little chefs from On to Baby really sweet! Nice idea for a birthday party to make your own pizza’s!

And how sweet is this play play kitchen area, from Desire to Inspire, below?

And lastly, don’t you just love this little vintage apron from Smashed Peas and Carrots. (Tutorial)

And for those of you that aren’t brave enough to get into the kitchen with your kids yet, there is always this option…

Party Party Party Cakes

19 May

So… today I did a test run for the birthday cake for the party on Saturday. Test run worked so well that the cake is now in the deep freeze and has been turned into the real deal.. Why spend two afternoons in the kitchen when the cake looks great (and tastes good!) You’ll have to wait for Saturday to see what I’ve chosen to make!

Anyway, with all this cake on my mind I thought I’d see what the more adventurous mom’s out there are doing!

Can you imagine walking through with this baby! I admit – I have cake envy… you can check out The Tom Kat Studio for more pictures from this sweet party!

And as for this Dr Seuss cake from the Frosted Events blog . Definitely not for the faint hearted to make this!

Or how about this car racing track cake – love how they use the top for the track, so clever.

And for those that find it tough deciding on a cake design for babies – I do love this idea for blocks from Michelle Cakes

And lastly…. all I can say for this cake is YUMMY

How time flies: Plane Party

18 May

I love this invitation from Little Sooti – using a ‘boarding pass’ with the kids names as the passenger for the invitations.

Or…. also LOVE this idea from Martha Stewart  for the invitations!

Love this decor from The Tom Kat studio – soo simple, but so impressive

What a cool alternative to ‘pin the tail on the donkey’ – ‘pin the prop on the plane’ sounds far more fun! (You can see the rest of the party at Little Sooti)

And then… how impressive is this birthday cake from Just Call Me Martha

I was such a tom boy growing up that I remember quite clearly having a helicopter cake one year (that my Dad made). Makes me wonder if I’ll ever be able to have an aeroplane party for my little pink monkey!

ps – for all of us in South Africa – don’t forget to vote today!

Candy Jewellery

5 May

Don’t you LOVE this cookie necklace! And the best thing is that you can see how it’s done on the Daily Mixer

And here’s another tutorial for some more really cute candy jewellery from Cute Food For Kids

I’ve mentioned these gumball necklaces (from One Charming Party) before, but they’re so adorable, I didn’t think you would mind me including them in a post again.

Teacher appreciation bouquet

25 Apr

I came across both these ideas from the Frost me Blog and had to share. So… for any mom’s out there with a birthday coming up for one of the angel teachers that teach your children every day – don’t you think this would be a great birthday present / classroom brighten upper and generally yummy gift for that special teacher person. This would of course also be a great way to brighten up a play room.
