Santa’s Shoebox

28 Sep

Not my normal post today, but definitely one that is very close to my heart. I’m not going to start posting about Christmas just yet I promise, but the deadline for this amazing project / charity (Santa Shoebox Project) to support is the end of October…

“Santa Shoebox Project is an inspiring community initiative that co-ordinates the donation, collection and distribution of personalized gifts at Christmas time to underprivileged children; while at the same time helping parents teach their own children about the joys of giving.

Participating is a profoundly valuable and personal experience as the donor knows the name, age and gender of the child that he/she chooses to donate to and the name of the organization that cares for the child.”

I really do want to instill the value of compassion with our monkey. I think it’s so important for her to understand from an early age that our beautiful country is unfortunately full of people and family’s that are under priviledged. Families that don’t have an income, children who don’t own a pair of shoes, who don’t know the joy of owning a toy, let alone opening a stocking full on Christmas morning, and Mother’s who don’t know where the next meal is coming from for their families. I want Layla to understand this and my wish is really that as she grows up she has only respect and compassion for people that are less fortunate than us. For me, this project is just the most amazing gift we can give – not just a gift we can give to these special kids, but a gift we can give to our own family.

I ask you to please pledge a shoebox for a child this Christmas…

As co-ordinator for the Santa Shoebox Project in the Central Durban area, I am extremely greatful to you for your article and the awareness it will create for this fab programme! It is mainly through email and word of mouth that this programme is so successful. We aimed to provide gifts for over 1500 children and only 4 weeks after the launch, we have nearly reached our target. Thank you!
