Some colourful birthday party inspiration

18 Jan

I’ve still got 4 months to go to our little monkey’s 2nd birthday (2nd birthday, how the hell did that happen, it was a few weeks ago I was posting pics from her very first birthday!) but came across some of these ideas for some table decor and thought I’d share! (I’ve got no idea what theme we’ll be doing, so I guess I’ll be on the look out for the next couple of months)

This idea is from Jacolyn Murphy’s blog.

And how cool are these instead of balloons… More pictures and a tutorial on how to make these over at Design Dazzle

And not forgetting the all important colour and  bling  that every party should have a touch of :) This gorgeous party inspiration from Hip Hip Hooray

Well hello there 2012

16 Jan

It’s been a ridiculously long time since I posted, I could blame my ADSL line being down for most of December (thanks Telkom) or just admit that  I was actually really enjoying the summer holiday with my little family, and not getting sucked into my Mac every evening (like what tends to happen during term time). It was a really good break, half was spent tearing around the country visiting family and the other half was spent at home, fixing things, making things, swims in the pool with our Monkey, swings, slides, mud puddles, reading a book and even sleeping in late…

We’ve got some exciting things happening in 2012, but more of that to come at a later stage! I know I’m a little late in wishing you all a very very happy New Year, but I truly do wish that 2012 is a good year for all of us, that at least the majority of the 365 days are spent as happy ones, filled with belly laughs and good times. Of course I’m under no illusion that it’ll all be plain sailing, with the good comes the bad, but let’s celebrate each good day as it passes and be grateful for that with which we are blessed with.

Wishing you an exciting year ahead, and as always, thanks for taking the time to stop by my blog. I promise my next post won’t be in a months time again!

Seriously, this is my kind of tree!

9 Dec

So I know I posted just a few days ago on Christmas trees, but seriously, that was before I came across this tree!!! And you know how much this gal loves a rainbows… so

And if you’ve got some felt to use… how cute is tis rainbow Christmas tree?

And then here’s some ideas for some rainbow decorations!

I’m a little bit head over heels in love with these, not sure how easy to make, but they look easy enough… And perfect for our very  Christmas tree. See how  to do it here…

You can dye some pasta to make pasta chains for the tree (or pretty necklaces) – see how they do it here

Things to make with paper

7 Dec

Don’t these look like pieces or art… well, the good news is that if you pop over to How about Orange where you can get the template. Word over at the instructions says you don’t need anything put paper to make these! Impressive huh

And while we’re on the subject of making pretty cool things with paper…how about these um, paper things from Mini Eco..

My Happy Family

6 Dec

The weekend of our family photo shoot finally arrived and we couldn’t be happier with the results. (If there’s any family reading this post please don’t show the grandparents as they’re getting some of these in their Christmas stockings!)

A massive thanks to our friend Megan Hancock for capturing our gorgeous monkey so perfectly.

Oh Christmas Tree

5 Dec

So today was THE day that we were going to get our Christmas tree… well, mission unsuccessful. I’m a fan of real trees, there’s something about the smell that they leave in your home, and also… we always had a real tree growing up. It was difficult to persuade even me to spend R175 on the last tree left at our local Spar, it was a little pathetic. (And now that I type that I almost feel sorry for it, kind of like the last puppy left in the litter, I mean, that Christmas tree I’m sure has potential with a bit of tinsel and lights, and now it’s probably still sitting, waiting to be picked. So, the hunt for the right Christmas tree continues…

A South African Love Poem…

3 Dec

Sorry to the international readers here, this probably won’t make that much sense, but I had to share it…

Valentine, oh Valentine,
I smaak you stukkend, say you’ll be mine.

You’re my morning, my sunshine, my moon and my stars,
You’re my airfreshener from O.K. Bazaars;

You’re my beaded love-letter, my breeze in the night,
You’re my coffee, my Cremora, my Blitz firelight.

You’re my Crime-Stop, my Tracker, you’re my ADT,
My pap, Mrs Ball’s chutney, my Nando’s for free;

You’re my lambchop, my dewdrop, my partner in crime,
My chillie, my pepper, my vetkoek sublime.

The list is endless and this isn’t all,
You’re my Lotto jackpot, my dop and my zol

You’re my 4X4 when the road is so hilly,
You’re my Floro margarine that butters my mielie.

I smaak you, my poppie, so please be my wife,
’cause, Baby, you’re the Tomato Sauce on the slap chips of life!
