Memo to the Mommy

18 Oct

I came across this pin on Pinterest, it looks like it’s a scanned in page from a magazine ‘Parents’ from Sept 2008. I did like the ‘memo’ and so thought I’d use the words for my post today.

“You have a lot of lessons to teach your little one, but she has a few words of wisdom for you too.”

1.) Stop freaking out about the mess. There’s always time to clean, but how often to we get to make mud pies?

2.) Love me, even when I’m naughty. I’ll only be this age once.

3.) Be patient, I do everything for a reason, but I don’t know enough words yet to give you an explanation.

4.) Let me do it. I know you can do it faster and better, but sometimes experience is the best teacher.

5.) Don’t expect too much of me. I want to do all that you ask and make you happy, but I’m still little.

6.) Keep your promises. It’s all about trust. When I’m a teenager, you’ll understand why it’s so important.

7.) Don’t try to reason with me when I’m having a tantrum. Trust me – I can’t hear you over my own screaming.

8.) Don’t let me think that you’re perfect. I’ll feel a lot better knowing I’m not the only one making mistakes sometimes.

9) Set limits, I can’t actually eat a whole box of cookies – I just want to see if I’d get away with it.

On the swing this morning

15 Oct

I was swinging my monkey this morning while out at breakfast and out of no where there was a massive lump in my throat and my eyes  welled up as I watched her just being so happy, squealing like only a little girl could each time the swing came back to me… As I was standing there I just couldn’t believe what an absolute blessing our monkey has been in our lives, how relatively easy she’s made our transition into parenthood and how she has grown into such a precious little girl!

My monkey, you bring smiles and laughter to our lives every day, I don’t know how it’s possible, but every night I put  you to bed I can honestly say I love you more than I did the day before -  I can’t fathom loving you a millimeter more than I do at this very second, but somehow I think my heart must just keep getting bigger and bigger with every hug you give me,  each squeal I hear, tear you shed and smile I see.

We love you monk xxxx

Gender Reveal Party

13 Oct

I’ve never been to one myself, but I’ve heard great feedback from friends who have. I guess it’s a very personal choice – either finding out the sex of your unborn child or not. We decided not to find out and for us it was the loveliest of suprises when the doctor told us our monkey was a girl… The moment is so massive that it still takes a while to sink in, especially as I did think we were having a boy! I’m sure this would be true for when ever you find out – at the doctors rooms, a reveal party or at the birth…

I reckon if I could throw another stork party soon, I’d quite like to throw a gender reveal for someone else :) Some of these ideas were for the parents revealing the gender to their familes, and some where revealing the gender to the parents themselves. ie – get your doctor to write down the sex of the baby and put it in an envelope, not to be peaked at and handed over to the party organizer!

How about some of these for cool ideas….

I guess this couple where having a …….. boy!

Or imagine cutting into the cake to reveal the gender for yourself… Oh the suspense, not sure I could cope!

You can find the recipes over at Babble

Have any of you hosted or been on the receiving end of a gender reveal party?

Blog Love

13 Oct

Since starting my blogging journey I’ve gathered a number of blog sites that I visit on a daily, weekly or monthly basis… Or when I see an RSS feed coming in!

I couldn’t decide whether to list  all the blogs I visit, or just a few and so decided to list mostly the South African mamma’s that I’ve come to know over the past months. I’m always amazed at how you can really start to feel like you ‘get to know’ these mama’s from their blog posts and of course tweets. I’ve laughed and cried reading so many of the posts, stood in admiration of single mom’s who not only raise their children single handedly, but who then manage to fit in blogging on top of it. I’ve judged some of the moms, and I’ve wished that I could be some of their ‘best’ friends in real life… They will of course be some that I miss on the first draft of this post, but I will continue to add  to this post as I go along this blogging journey and  meet new friends and find new inspiration.

Thanks to you all for including us in a part of your lives…

If red’s your favourite colour…

12 Oct

Red is the next colour in my series of ‘what your favourite colour says about you’! Now I have to admit, red is right up there with my favourite colours. Not quite as fav as yellow is, but it comes close. (I’m choosing the ‘Red is usually chosen by people with open and uncomplicated natures’ to describe me then… and leaving the other crazy bits out like people who like red could be unaware of their short comings. That just sounds like crazy talk :)

So here’s what Devine Caroline says about the colour Red!

Red
The color of strength, health, and vitality, red is often the color chosen by someone outgoing, aggressive, vigorous, and impulsive—or someone who would like to be! It goes with an ambitious nature but those who choose it can be abrupt at times, determined to get all they can out of life, quick to judge people and take sides. Red people are usually optimistic and can’t stand monotony; they are rather restless and not at all introspective, so they may be unaware of their own shortcomings. They find it hard to be objective and may blame others for any mishaps.

Quiet people with a preference for red may feel the need for the warmth, strength, and life-giving qualities of the color, or they blanket their true feelings under a sober exterior. Red is usually chosen by people with open and uncomplicated natures, with a zest for life.

Knit your own hot air balloons – how lovely are these from The Making Spot, and how gorgeous would they look hanging from your kids bedroom roof.. I’m all loved up with them… You can download the knitting pattern from Etsy

And then how cute is this Hot Air Balloon, I mean, Parachute and Aeroplane birthday party from Birds Party! The cupcakes are my favourite decor item I think!
