The Tenth and final Something every child’s room should have – Something they chose

The last in this ‘series’ of numbers 1 through 10 of a list  I originally saw on OhDeeDoh No 10 is ‘Something They Chose’. I thought it would be a great virtual inspiration board to go through points one to ten, one post at a time and  to add my own slant to their suggestions… For numbers 1 though 9 please check out our previous posts.

10. Something They Chose: It’s all too easy to get caught up in decorating a space for your tiny tots without any input. Try letting them pick out a few items and allow them to help create their own space, they’ll be far more intuitive than you think though they might need a little adult guidance.

This post was a little difficult as how do I choose something the little ones would choose! So here we go – it might not be for the bedroom specifically, but I can’t imagine any kid who wouldn’t LOVE having in their living spaces!

The 9th Something – Something with Colour!

“9. Something With Color: Even if you love a totally monochromatic room (we do too!) there has to be some bit of color somewhere. A pillow, a throw, a mobile or even a rug, something to make the balance between cool and comforting and warm and bubbly exist!” (Original post from OhDeeDoh)

Colour is obviously something we’ve never had a problem with. I love this nursery with so much colour, but still so well balanced with the white of the room.

I admit – I have colour organization envy here! Isn’t this perfect for any child’s room. (Image taken from this article ‘Cutting through the clutter of toys‘) One day when I’m big, I’m also going to be so beautifully organized!

And if you’re looking for a simple colour solution, it looks like they’ve just used ribbon here. Got to love a bit of ribbon huh!

The 8th Something every bedroom should have – something to take pride in

Number 8 on the  list  I originally saw on OhDeeDoh is ‘something to take pride in’. I thought it would be a great virtual inspiration board to go through points one to ten, one post at a time and  to add my own slant to their suggestions…

8. ” Something To Take Pride In: It might be the pine wood derby car they made in Boy Scouts, a macaroni necklace they made, or a certificate of outstanding school attendance, but either way, having something they made themselves, won or achieved is a great thing to have.”

I think children’s artwork is always something that they (together with Mom and Dad of course) are proud of. Here are a few ways of displaying your child’s art, be it in their room or elsewhere in the house!

Here’s a great way to display numerous works of art by your child in one print…

Here’s another great idea which I’ve done previously as a different way to display  my niece’s artwork (I think the fridge had run out of space!). It’s a coffee table book with prints of your child’s artwork printed in them.

I used www.myphotobook.co.za, and it was as easy as taking photos of the artwork and loading them using the software, laying the artwork out and sending the file to print – all done online using their software (which is easy to use) and a few days later I could collect the book from the photo lab.

The Seventh Something – to intrique

The Sixth ‘Something’ essential for your babies bedroom is something handmade

6. Something Handmade: Although this might not be at the top of everyone’s list, a handmade item in a child’s room is putting a bit of family right there with them.

Love this mobile that would be so easy to make!

Some handmade scatter cushions

Personalise some wooden blocks with baby’s name (from Not on the High Street.com)

5. Something To Read: Even if you keep your main household library somewhere else in your dwelling, that doesn’t mean there shouldn’t be a few books in case naps are ended early or bedtime stories need to be read.

4. Something To Snuggle With: For some it’s a blanket, for others it’s a stuffed animal.

2) Something That Glows: Overhead lights can be so harsh, especially if you’re trying to get little ones to sleep! A task light or lamp can bring much comfort and warmth. Even a flashlight to read under the covers with is a plus!

10 “Somethings” every child’s room should have – Something to sleep on

I saw this post originally on OhDeeDoh and thought it would be a great virtual inspiration board to go through points one to ten, one post at a time and add my own slant to their suggestions… Here’s number 1 -

1. Something To Sleep On: We meant basic above, but the bed is the first place to start!

So I know the original post was referring to a bed, which would obviously be the first ‘something’ that every room should have, but in my mind, something as beautiful as this crochet pillow is just as important as a bed!
